It’s funny how life sometimes works in mysterious ways, connecting two people at just the right moment. For us, that moment came in 2016.
They were out with friends, looking to unwind after the chaos of the first week of classes. Christine was studying Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo, while Mike was deep into his Woodworking program at Conestoga College. Initially, they had planned to head to Dallas Country Club, but when they saw the long line outside, their friend groups decided to try their luck at a different spot—Night School.
Neither Christine nor Mike had any idea that this change of plans would lead to a life-altering connection.
At Night School, Christine was dancing with her friends, enjoying the night as it unfolded. Mike, on the other hand, was just having a good time with his own group. But when he saw Christine on the dance floor, something about her energy drew him in. Without overthinking it, he made his way over to dance with her.
They danced the night away and the rest is history! They may not have known each other before that night, but it didn’t take long for them to feel like they had known each other for years.
Over the next few years, they navigated the challenges of long-distance dating. Mike back home in Chatham, and Christine was back and forth between Etobicoke and Waterloo, but that never stopped them. They traveled to visit each other, and their trips became some of the best memories of their relationship.
Along the way, they've made countless memories from exploring the breathtaking landscapes of British Columbia to pulling pints and petting sheep in Ireland. But even the simpler moments—cooking meals together, indulging in movie marathons, and spending sunny summer days at their cottages—became some of their most cherished memories.
In 2022, after years of long-distance, Mike and Christine decided it was time to take the next step. They moved in together in Innisfil.
But perhaps the most magical moment came August 19th, 2023, during an evening at Christine’s cottage (her favourite place in the world). As the sun was setting, the two of them were skipping rocks by the bay. It was a quiet, simple moment, the kind they had shared many times before. But this time, Mike had something special planned. "I have a question for you babe", Mike said. When Christine turned around, he was down on one knee and asked her to be his forever.
It was a complete surprise, and with the bay shimmering and the sun setting in the background, the answer was the easiest one Christine had ever given - “yes"!!
Their story—from that unforgettable night at Night School to now—has been one of serendipity, adventure, and love.
